International Crisis Group and Forum for Ethnic Relations (Belgrade) held a joint seminar at the Institute of Social Sciences on the subject: „International crisis group on Kosovo: International negotiating position of Serbia at the beginning of discussions on the final status”.

The seminar was a unique opportunity for the Crisis Group to give its view on Serbia’s position in relation to Kosovo in early 2005, on how Serbia’s position viewed in international circles, and how it will affect Serbia’s position in discussions on the final status of Kosovo. Among the topics discussed was the international legal framework within which the final status will be discussed, how well prepared is Serbia for such discussions, the communication/interaction between Belgrade and UNMIK, as well as the effectiveness of Serbian politics at the international level.

The seminar also allowed the representatives of the Crisis Group to hear the views of Serbs from Kosovo and from Belgrade regarding complex issues related to the final status and the possible effects on Kosovo Serbs and Albanians.
